Dodital, literally meaning the Dodi Lake, is at an elevation of 3024 m north of Uttarkashi.
Crystal clear waters are surrounded by dense oak woods, pine, deodar and rhododendrons. The lake is full of fish and is known for some rare species like the Himalayan Golden Trout. The forest surrounding the lake is also full of wildlife. It provides an idyllic set up for rest and recreational activities like angling, boating and bird-watching. The trek from Dodital to Hanuma Chatti via Darwa Top takes two days, moves on to the upper reaches of the Garhwal Himalayas in Yamunotri; the place where the sacred river Yamuna originates from high up in the mountains is the Dodital lake- mysterious, alluring, and simply beautiful! The serene, tranquil surroundings, gurgling streams, crystal clear water, and dense alpine forests make for an ideal retreat. The trek from Dodital to Yamunotri takes you through high altitude grasslands and dense virgin forests. The scenery en-route is really astounding!
Itinerary
Day 01: Delhi – Haridwar (Drive / Train)
Morning meeting and assistance in Delhi and leave for Haridwar. On arrival check in at hotel. Evening visit Har – ki- Pauri to see Ganga Aarti. Overnight: Hotel
Day 02: Haridwar – Uttarkashi by surface (175 Km, 6-7 hrs)
Morning transfer to Uttarkashi by road. Lunch enroute. On arrival check in at hotel. Evening at leisure.
Overnight: Hotel.
Day 03: Uttarkashi – Kalyani – Agoda (Drive 1 hr, trek 4-5 hrs)
After breakfast leave for Kalyani by jeeps & on arrival leave on the trek. Today we have a gradual climb all the way up to Agoda through the jungle known for medicinal plants and herbs. On arrival check in at guest house. Relax in the evening. Overnight: Guest house / Tent
Day 04: Agoda – Dodital (3307 m / 6-7 hrs)
After breakfast leave for once again on a gradual climb. We carry on to reach Dodital which is at 3327 mts is one of the most beautiful lakes in high Himalayas. The High altitude lake is known for its Golden trout and fishing is allowed with a permit from local authorities in advance. On arrival check in at Guest house. Overnight: Tent
Day 05: Dodital – Darwa Top – Dodital (5 kms trek one side / 3 hrs)
Early in the morning trek up to Darwa Top with packed Lunch. The walk to Darwa top is 5 kms (2-3 hrs). It is a pass at a height of 4150 mts. The entire walk is an uphill climb. It starts with the climb along the feeder to Dodital breaking into a thick birch forest opening into the high meadows.
A perfect setting for Himalayan wild flowers, Darwa top offers an amphitheatre view of the Bandarpunch and Swargarohini range of peaks. Absorb the breathtaking views and start the downhill walk to reach the campsite for the hot lunch. One can also spend this day sipping tea, catching up with the local tales, walking around the lake sighting birds or just observing the clear waters of the lake with the trout making an occasional appearance. After exploring the Darwa Top trek back to Dodital for dinner and overnight stay. Overnight: Tent
Day 06: Dodital – Agoda (2250 mts/7380 ft) (17 kms/4-5 hrs)
After breakfast we will trek down till Agoda. It is a 17 Kms Trek. Overnight in Guest house at Agoda. Overnight: Guest House
Day 07: Agoda – Kalyani – Rishikesh (Trek 4 kms, Drive 152 km)
Morning after breakfast Trek down to Sangamchatti 04 Kms. and from Sangamchatti drive down to Rishikesh 152 Km. Check in at Hotel. Rest of the day free to explore the nearby area. Overnight: Hotel
Day 08: Rishikesh – Delhi
Transfer to Delhi. Trip and services ends here
